Andrew Hudson has been our accompanist since 1998. Born and bred in Higham Ferrers, Andrew began formal piano lessons at the age of nine. After five years, his teacher suggested that his style might be better suited to the organ, and he started lessons with the organist of Higham Ferrers Methodist Church. When his teacher left the area a few years later, Andrew took over as organist, a post he held for over 20 years until the closure of the church in 2004.
In the early 1980s Andrew was invited to accompany a small concert party, ‘The Majesticks’, whose members were associated with the St Cecilia Singers of Rushden. He was subsequently appointed accompanist to the St Cecilia Singers in 1986, and played for them until 2015. He also accompanied the Ouse Valley Singers for several years, before being invited to accompany the Orpheus Choir in 1997, initially deputising for and sharing the role with Hilda Ozier. He took over from her when she retired at the beginning of 1998 at the age of 91.
Andrew can often be spotted singing along with the basses while playing at rehearsals – no mean feat!
